This role involves providing strategic budget and financial support in the dynamic field of public behavioral health, and requires strong analytical skills, significant budgeting and financial management, reporting experience, and the ability to think critically, solve problems, while balancing multiple priorities and tasks. Responsibilities include developing, executing, monitoring, analyzing, and reporting for the Region 2 budget which is composed primarily of grant funds and supports five Community Service Boards (CSBs).

This position will ensure department compliance with the applicable state, federal, and county requirements, financial policies, regulations, and procedures. Develops and maintains linkage with clinical and operational regional stakeholders, to ensure clear understanding of the needs of the regional programming and better meet the fiduciary needs of the region while also maintaining strict adherence to funding support from the various sources (federal, state, local).

Under the supervision of the NVRPO Finance Manager (Financial Specialist IV), the primary NVRPO Finance Supervisor duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversight of all budgeting, purchasing, and payment processing and reporting activities and overseeing audit processes, adhering to strict reporting and grant/budget management fiscal deadlines
  • Managing all fiscal components of grant management and providing organizational strategy analyses recommendations
  • Supervision of professional level staff and maintaining strong internal controls
  • Analyzing and researching the fiscal impact of policy and/or program changes
  • Completing and presenting regional financial reports often requiring complex analytical and statistical report generation.
  • Completing required deliverables for annual, third quarter, and carryover budget processes, the State Performance Contract fiscal reporting, and making presentations to executive leadership.
  • Special projects and other duties, as assigned, to support Region 2 during staff vacancies and for staff on long term leave, or to support a scheduled team deliverable, i.e. DBHDS State Performance Contract reporting and annual budget development and the financial Year End.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Providing park visitors with general assistance, directions and information on City parks, recreation programs, information on historical, cultural and natural features of parks and other services

Required Skills & Experience:

• Must be team player with ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with other employees and general public

• Must possess good communication skills, including being able to hand write legibly and follow simple oral and written instructions

• Must have ability to work independently in field conditions and have ability to walk/hike up to 10 miles daily

• Must have experience with strenuous mountain biking in the woods and in city traffic

Job Description

The Leading by Example Division (LBE) works collaboratively with state agencies and public colleges and universities to advance clean energy and sustainable practices that reduce the environmental impacts of state government operations. The LBE intern will work with Division staff on a variety of decarbonization, renewable energy, electric vehicle (EV), and EV charging infrastructure projects associated with state government operations.

Research and analysis that supports decarbonization and energy efficiency, such as solar canopies, EV models, building energy data, and innovative technologies or services.

Public outreach that communicates our work to constituents, such as presentations, planning for press events and site visits, and social media posts.

State agency outreach that focuses on LBE’s relationships with sister agencies, such as meeting prep, presentations, and speaker coordination.

Grant management of LBE’s various energy grant programs, such as grant application review, data analysis, and grant package development.

Job Description

DOER is looking for a motivated candidate with an interest in energy policy, the clean energy transition, policy analysis, data analysis, and state government functions. The internship will provide an excellent opportunity to learn about energy policy, develop policy and data analysis skills, gain experience working on a team, and build a network in the clean energy and policy sector. The Intern will be given opportunities to shadow Division staff and managers in internal and external meetings to learn about DOER’s work.

The Policy, Planning, and Analysis Division supports the DOER’s energy policy work through research and analysis. Projects for the Policy Intern will be based on Division needs but can take into account Intern interests and skills. Projects may include:

Conducting policy analysis regarding electric utility’s proposed electric vehicle charging infrastructure investments to support transportation electrification.

Conducting policy analysis regarding data governance structures for Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) databases.

Evaluating new regulatory frameworks for networked geothermal heating systems.

Analyzing utility proposals for strategic electrification pilot projects.

Other possible projects to meet Division needs.

Responsibilities:

Assist with internal DOER policy recommendations and external deliverables.

Job Description

DOER is seeking a legal intern to gain practical experience and to assist in providing legal services and support to DOER staff on various energy matters including administrative proceedings before the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities (DPU) as well as other matters involving the energy industry in the Commonwealth. The intern may work on a variety of energy policy and regulatory issues concerning energy efficiency, solar, renewable and alternative energy, Massachusetts Green Communities, clean energy siting and permitting, electric transportation, and the impacts these policies may have on all energy consumers, including Environmental Justice, low-income, and vulnerable populations.

Responsibilities:

Assist in providing legal services and support to DOER staff on a range of energy-related matters.

Support administrative proceedings before the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities (DPU).

Conduct legal and policy research on energy regulation and industry-related issues within the Commonwealth.

Assist with analysis of energy policy and regulatory initiatives, including energy efficiency, solar, renewable and alternative energy programs.

Support work related to Massachusetts Green Communities, clean energy siting and permitting, and electric transportation initiatives.

Evaluate the impacts of energy policies on all energy consumers, with particular attention to Environmental Justice, low-income, and vulnerable populations.

Draft memoranda, summaries, and other legal or policy-related materials as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong organizational skills, writing skills, and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in oral and written form.

Job Description

The Renewables Division administers the Renewable and Alternative Portfolio Standards (RPS and APS) for Massachusetts’ electric supply. The Division also manages the Solar Massachusetts Target (SMART) program and develops other programs to promote the growth of renewable energy. The Division is looking for a motivated candidate to assist with the implementation of these programs.

The internship will provide an excellent opportunity to expose the candidate to a variety of clean energy technologies and receive an introduction into policy development and program implementation. Previous knowledge of relevant technologies is not required.

Job Description

The Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources is seeking an intern to support communications activities as part of the External Affairs team. External Affairs leads DOER’s communications efforts, including media relations, events, web content, and social media. The intern will gain hands-on communications experience in a fast-paced government agency that contributes to Massachusetts’ efforts to address climate change and shape its energy future.

The intern will interact with DOER’s leadership team and work across all program areas. They will work on a variety of initiatives including communications-related projects and an ongoing website reorganization project. To successfully complete these projects, the intern will interact with various DOER staff to gather information and coordinate efforts.

A strong candidate has an interest or experience in communications or a related field, solid written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, experience using a content management system, strong writing and storytelling skills, experience creating social media content, and strong organizational skills. The intern will need to manage multiple projects with concurrent timelines and will need to be proactive, detail oriented, and able to work independently. Knowledge of or interest in Massachusetts’ energy priorities and initiatives is a plus.

Job Description

The Energy Efficiency Intern will support the Energy Efficiency Division in its work in supporting education on the Commonwealth’s recently updated building energy codes and its review of projects under the Massachusetts Environmental Protection Act (MEPA), as well as other division work in its development of programs and policies to decarbonize existing buildings.

Responsibilities:

Compile and analyze data relating to new building developments subject to MEPA project review to develop data supported trends and review MEPA’s impacts on the Commonwealth’s building decarbonization efforts.

Prepare succinct presentation materials that convey MEPA impacts.

Assist in collating questions from code users to the stretch code inbox to build and update the FAQ section on the DOER website.

Job Description

DOER is seeking an intern to support graphic design and science communication for DOER outreach. The intern will be part of the Coordination and Engagement team which leads DOER’s communications efforts, including media relations, stakeholder engagement, public events, web content, and social media.

The intern will work on a variety of public education and awareness initiatives across the breadth of DOER policies including renewable energy, energy efficiency, siting and permitting, and general energy policy. To support these policy initiatives, the intern will work with DOER staff to develop various public-facing content, including one-pagers, informational graphics, and technical assistance documents that communicate the complexity of DOER’s policies and procedures in plain language for a general audience. The intern will coordinate with the Coordination and Engagement team as other staff update the website and distribute social media, press, and other related content.

A strong candidate will have solid graphical and written communication skills, including experience using a graphic design platform or software, and good organizational skills. An ideal candidate will have some experience in science communication, especially in energy, and demonstrated experience designing content that explains complicated concepts simply. Knowledge of, or a desire to learn about, Massachusetts’ energy priorities and initiatives is a plus. The intern will need to manage multiple projects with concurrent timelines and will need to be proactive, detail oriented, and able to work independently.

Responsibilities:

Work with the Deputy Commissioner and DOER Divisions to design and write plain language content from longer written content

Utilize DOER’s brand guidance and graphic library to create cohesive designs

Build a template library for future one-pagers, graphics, etc.

Assist the Sitting & Permitting team with designing reader-friendly resources

Complete other tasks as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

Work or academic experience in communications, community engagement, digital media, graphic design, multimedia journalism, or a related field.

Proficient with graphic design software.

Knowledge of Microsoft suite platforms (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.).

Strong interpersonal skills and written and verbal communication skills.

Detail-oriented, organized, and able to work collaboratively in a team setting.

An ideal candidate will have some experience in science communication, especially in energy.

Knowledge of or a desire to learn about Massachusetts’ energy priorities and initiatives is a plus.

Other relevant information:

Hours per week: Full time – 37.5 hours per week

This position is partially remote with a hybrid schedule that includes a minimum of one day in-office per week

Hourly rate: $18.00/hour for College Undergraduate Students and $28.00/hour for Graduate Students.

Internship duration: June 1 – August 14.
